Michelle Smith is the clerk of the New Jersey Superior Court. She is a member of the New Jersey Sovereign Citizen Committee; conducts information and training sessions to judges and staff statewide; and co-chairs the committee’s Court Rules Work Group; her office coordinates records of sovereign activities across the state. Ms. Smith directs the administration of staff and budget resources; develops and implements plans for the office’s efficient operation; implements court rules, policies, and directives related to court processing, public access to court records, records management, and electronic filing of court cases; and works closely with other clerks of court, trial judges and managers throughout the judiciary and partners in the executive branch to improve trial-court operations. She began her career as a case worker for family courts in Queens in 1997 and is certified as a family mediator. She served as director of the New York City Family Court Mediation Program and associate executive director of mediation services for Community Mediation Services, Inc. She earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York and a law degree from the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in Huntington, New York.
