Jonathan S. Rosenthal, Esquire, is Director of the Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO). MACRO’s mission is to promote the availability, use, and quality of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) throughout Maryland. MACRO does this by 1) collaborating with courts and other justice partners to advance the field of conflict resolution, 2) providing training and presentations to courts, bar associations, and other organizations for skill enhancement, professional growth, ethics matters, and public information and awareness, 3) working to improve the quality of mediation services by managing the Maryland Program for Mediator Excellence (MPME), 4) supporting, and encouraging research and evaluation of ADR programs and processes, and 5) raising public awareness of ADR and supporting the appropriate use of ADR by those experiencing conflict. Previously, Jonathan was the Executive Director of ADR Programs for the District Court of Maryland, and has been a solo practicing attorney and mediator. He is an adjunct professor teaching negotiation, arbitration, and mediation at Anne Arundel Community College, and he has taught mediation at the Mediation Clinic at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. In 2015, Jonathan was honored to be the recipient of the Robert M. Bell Award for Outstanding Contribution to ADR in Maryland, presented by the Maryland State Bar Association Alternative Dispute Resolution Section.
